As previously stated, audio profiles are now only displaying for premium members. The Quickntoe history has now moved to premium status as well, as advertised.
Thanks.

hmm don't you mean only available for premium members to record, while all members can access them?

that's elitist pal hmmm I dont agree with this premium nonsense.

Post 4 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Tuesday, 14-Dec-2004 9:43:54

Hmm, somewhat confused. I thought that the idea was that premium members could record much larger audio files (30 seconds vs 2 minutes for premium members) but everyone could record a 30-second audio profile and everyone could access everyone else's. I might've been misunderstanding of course.
Goblin, I'd have to disagree with you on this one. I feel if the site is functional and working fine for people there's nothing wrong with offering some convenience features for those who can and can afford to show their appreciation for the developer of the site. Trust me, coding this stuff takes both time and tallent, I should know as I do this for my job. As long as the site is kept functional for the free membership I think it's not wrong to offer some features to a premium member, especially considering that a year's premium membership would run you about 12 pounds. Of course not everycan afford 12 pounds, but all in all, considering how much time you'd spend on the Zone over an entire year I don't think it's an unfair idea, not really.

It's fare, however definitely more interesting if audio profiles are open to anyone to record and hear. Of course, J.J can do whatever he wants...It's his site, and it certainly won't stop me from coming.

Post 6 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 14-Dec-2004 13:00:41

Audio profiles are supposed to be available for everyone to listen to and rate, but can only be recorded by premium members and can be up to two minutes in length. At least that's what was mentioned when the idea was released a couple weeks ago.

Post 7 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Tuesday, 14-Dec-2004 13:20:26

I'm going to suggest that members with existing audio profiles get to keep theirs online (just a suggestion) because it's nice to have them. In addition, perhaps still allow regular members to record 20 seconds of audio? It's nice to have a voice that goes with the screen name, even if it's that basic. I agree premium type of "cool" audio files should come with a premium but I think the audio profiles are one of the cool unique features of the site so taking the ability to ecord one completely off-line for non-premium members might slihgtly decrease the attractiveness of the site.
It's just a thought really and I don't know what people think about it .. but I figured I should put it out there.
cheers

I gotta agree with wildbrew. It's nice to put a voice to a screen name. And some of the audio profiles I heard are very interesting or funny. At least let those with free accounts keep theirs.

Ok, not kissin' know ones ass here, but I do agree, that at least, the people that can't come up with the money, should be able to at least have a tiny voice clip up...
Trust me, after this year, I will not be able to pay for this, while I thank you so much for this treat.... I do think that at least, give the free members a chance to let there voices be heard.
I do really appreciate the taste of leasure... just a thought.
I don't know how much vand width that'd take up, nor how much space on the servers, but... yeah, just voicin' my opinion.

Take care,

Cortney

Yeah, I definitely agree that the members who have existing audio profiles should get to keep theirs up, as some people put a lot of effort into making their profile sound nice, not to say that i did, but it was a nice feature. I got a laugh out of some of them while others really surprised me, because the voice just didnt seem to go with the personality, or the username, or whatever of the person I was talking to. We shouldn't get as much time as premium members t record the profiles, but if we already have one up, i think 1 minute is fair.

Post 11 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Tuesday, 14-Dec-2004 20:07:04

OK. Because of the bit of misunderstanding, I'll be putting the other ones back up later tonight.

Post 12 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Tuesday, 14-Dec-2004 21:42:14

OK. Here's what I did, hopefully not making any of the premium members mad. I brought back all of the profiles that are uploaded. Also, so new members or whoever can try out the feature, you can upload up to a 20-second profile if you're not premium.

Post 13 by Emailaddressthief (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Tuesday, 14-Dec-2004 22:01:49

If they are mad tell them to come talk to me! I'll be happy to show them where it said all the features already available on zone would still be available. That includes audio profiles.

Post 14 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Tuesday, 14-Dec-2004 23:37:20

Actually Bug, that post was made on May 10which was before audio profiles were available. Do look at the dates on posts. They can tell a story.

Fixed the past winners on Anagram Extreme.

I think some of this confusion lies in the board topic of "ideas for premium" which was started before the audio profiles were thought of. I believe it was May. also in the premium membership page, it does say "all the feeatures we know and already will remain" bla bla which was obviously true but since the audio profiles were now only for premium to record I did have the impression that it would mean the existing ones would come down. Guess i got that notion from the bandwidth that would need to be save for premium members, but I could see where that could have been explained a bit clearer as well.
hmm cheers! :)

i think that having the feature of recording a 1 minute profile was good while it lasted.:-) if i wanted to make a new recording how can I know when 20 seconds is up since sound recorder goes for a minute at a time? cheers to you all!

Post 18 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Thursday, 16-Dec-2004 2:19:33

Hmmm I guess jsut make your best guess. i think you could use your screen reader's cursor when you're done to check how long you recorded.

Post 19 by Jess227 on Thursday, 16-Dec-2004 5:52:24

I have nothing to complain really about the audio profiles. Just a suggestion for those that had theirs and took the time to create theirs to keep them. I on the other hand never created one. Never had the time as I'm pretty much either posting on this board or working on my site.

Post 20 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Thursday, 16-Dec-2004 12:20:21

Ya, they're back up. Consider it a benefit for helping us with the beta.
